Ask Our Experts

Sahul’s Research & Development includes exploration of therapeutic values of potential medicinal & aromatic plants, folklore claims and evidence based medicines to deliver scientifically proved, safe and effective natural therapeutic measures. Keeping this view in mind Sahul Research Foundation carries out Research activities in the following domains:

PHYTO-CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
Isolation, purification and characterization of chemical constituents from plants or its harvested part for standardization and quality assessment, both at the time of procurement and at finished product stage.
PHARMACOGNOSTICAL STUDY
Screening and pharmacognostical (morphological & microscopical) study of Medicinal Plants or harvested part for their identification, quality assurance and grading, addressing issues of adulteration.
Creation, preservation and maintenance of ‘Herbaria’ and ‘Standard Samples’ of official drug for detection of substitute and adulterant.
PRE-FORMULATION STANDARDS
During pre-formulation decisions a multidisciplinary team with diversified background does a number of brain storming sessions:
Marketing
R&D
Ayurvedic Clinicians
Our every formulation is a unique balance between the old age traditional concepts of Ayurveda like Doshas, Panchma habutas and Saptadhatus and the modern scientific concepts of pathology, pharmaco-kinetics and drug interaction. Our team always aims to draw parallels between the ancient concepts and contemporary thoughts that result into a modern-day formulation, which can be easily administered.
FORMULATION & DEVELOPMENT
1. Pre-formulation studies i.e. survey of literatures, ancient classics, books, research papers to check the biological action of the ingredients
2. Pharmacognosy – Morphological and Microscopical identification to get the authentic raw material
3. Pre-clinical Pharmacological trials to assess safety and efficacy of formulations
4. Accelerated stability study to check physical, chemical, microbiological & biological aspects of formulations and make necessary changes in formulation and dosage form if required
5. Standardize the process for uniform quality
6. Clinical studies – Phase I, II, III & Phase IV (post marketing surveillance)
7. Transfer of technology to the production department
Every formulation that goes to the market is extensively studied and sends for Formulation Development. For which we have a Library, Museum and a Documentation collection division. Every plant which goes into formulation are thoroughly screened by obtaining all the traditional, chemical and pharmacological data from National and International Journals by using primarily with Ayurvedic Concepts.
Every formulation that is taken for development where a separate document is prepared which enable the Marketing Division also to use. Our Marketing division constantly gets feed back from the R & D Team regarding:
1. Well-documented knowledge about the therapeutic efficacy of crude drugs
2. Absence of harmful contaminants, viz. residues of pesticides, heavy metals, micro-organisms etc.
3. Quality formulations, which have been standardized
EFFICACY ASSESSMENT
1. Validation and establishment of the therapeutic claims by Pre-clinical Pharmacological studies (bio-pharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics) using animal models
2. Clinical studies in Phases I, II, III & Phase IV (post marketing surveillance) in addition to the animal experimental model
SAFETY ASSESSMENT
By carrying out Toxicological studies in various levels i.e. acute, sub-acute, chronic and teratogenicity.
AGRO-TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH
1. Studies on ‘in vitro’ propagation to explore the scope of tissue culture techniques in multiplication of certain medicinal plant species.
2. The company has also developed agro-technology for ex-situ Cultivation of Medicinal Plants of some economically important medicinal plant species through organic farming for easy availability of genuine raw materials.
